Many of these terms are developed at specific time periods in the history of Vranon. Depending on which book you're reading or have read, some of these terms may seem foreign, but will appear in the other novels.

Abaddon — The leader and most powerful of the felled.

Ancient Tales, the  A collection of documents written about the history of Vranon. They start at the very beginning, before mankind dwelt in Vranon, and aldhelms continue to add to it every verse. Only few understand the beginning of the Ancient Tales, as a Spirit himself wrote it in a non-common tongue. It takes the great wisdom and discernment that only incredibly gifted aldhelms can acquire to uncover its teachings.

Aldhelm — Interpreters of the Ancient Tales and gifted storytellers. Aldhelms are known for building temples in communities, where everyone comes together to hear them share their wisdom through stories and retellings of the Ancient Tales.

Augling — Four-legged, hooved beasts with long, soft, Evergrove-green fur, a canine-like face, and boar-like tusks. Adults reach heights of four feet on all fours. They hunt by blending into the Evergrove forest, then a leader steps out to lure its prey into their hidden trap, where the entire pack pounces.

Baron — Head of any given area of a region within a kingdom, as assigned by their earls. Earls can add or remove any barons they like to their regions, and hire or fire whomever they deem fit for the work of a baron.

Buan — The most powerful being in all Vranon. In a realm apart from where man dwells, Buan rests atop a great mountain, from which everything that exists lies beneath. Atop the mountain, he can see all things. Before anyone else discovered Vranon, Buan climbed the mountain and shouted from its peak, “The land beneath belongs to me. Anyone who wishes may attempt to climb the mountain and challenge me, but will only meet my fury. So long as I am atop the mountain, I will rule this land.”

Burgeon — The first season of every verse. Typically brings a warmer climate, and with it, the bloom of plants and flowers that were bare from the last season.

Cae D'as — The land mass between Thread Bay and Felledland.

Cauver — A two-legged animal with small arms and orange-red fur. It’s about four feet tall with a long face and a white belly.

Chilam — A bird with bright yellow feathers, red eyes, and a flat head.

Crestend — The fourth day of the lapse

Dream — One of the seven blessings of Vranon. Those gifted with Dream can control themselves while dreaming, and see others' dreams. Through dreams, they can pick apart thoughts and feelings of others. Dreamers can also spot other dreamers in dream, and can prevent a Dreamer from seeing another's thoughts.

Earl — Heads of regions throughout the kingdom of Madanevé. Earls lead a section of the kingdom that the king has assigned them to, and they are allowed to hire barons to help them run their region.

Eb'nway — The fourth and last season of every verse. The coldest time of verse, Eb'nway is when most climates will experience snow, save for places such as Evergrove, where the weather stays typically the same during the entire verse.

Euis — The language of euphemians.

Euphemian — A race of beings that live in the Northeast Territories. Distinguishable characteristics include a mouthless and noseless face, and skin color that changes according to their emotions.

Evergrove — The largest forest in Vranon. Evergrove rests in the center of Cae D'as, taking up the whole of the land. Its trees are known for reaching incredible heights of hundreds of feet. Evergrove is also where the giants live.

Fallets — Large, extra juicy, oval-shaped fruits. Found naturally in warmer climates like Evergrove, but the nomadic giants took many seeds and planted them all over Vranon. They have to be kept in warmer climates to grow properly. Gaints have a great love for fallet wine, so they do whatever it takes to make the fallets grow wherever they are.

Felled, the  The felled are milds that have fallen into Vranon's abyss. Driven by their jealousy and hatred of man, the felled seek to drive out mankind from Vranon, throw Buan off of his mountain, and claim Vranon for themselves.

Festives, the — A room in the castle of Madanevé that exists for festivities, celebrations, and special dining occassions.

Flame, the  (see: Lullend Flame)

Forebearer — Aldhelms in training. Forebearers will study under an aldhelm as students, and often their aldhelms will assign them the tasks of caring for the temple. Such as cleaning and giving to the poor.

Foundend — The second day of the lapse.

Founding's Rise — The first day of the lapse.

Garashan — A small fishing town in the Northeast Territories, east of Elder's Bay and north of Evergrove.

Glacier Gulf — The body of water that splits the Northeast Territories between Eb'never and Cae D'as.

Great Trade, the — The Great Trade happens on the seventh lapse of burgeon in the kingdom of Southread. The seventh lapse of burgeon is the peak of a sprucesicle's life, where it blooms the greatest and produces the most. Sprucesicle is a rare tree that can be harvested into many usable, and even edible items. It only grows in certain parts of the Golden Forest near the kingdom of Southread. During the Great Trade, hundreds of gatherers harvest as much sprucescile as possible and sell it in their kingdom. The rest of the verse is spent utlizing and reselling sprucescile within their kingdom.

Guaral — A a four-legged beast with night-blue fur, purple eyes, and typically has two sharp teeth hanging over its bottom jaw. This is one of the beasts rumored to have sprung to life during the War of the Milds.

Harvest — The third season of every verse. During harvest, the weather begins to cool and leaves begin falling from the trees.

Lapse — A period of six days that repeats when completed.

Lapse's Crest — The third day of the lapse.

Light — One of the seven blessings. Those with the blessing of Light can do various things like distort light to create illusions, heal, change colors, and much more.

Lullend — The sixth day of the lapse.

Lull's Rise — The fifth day of the lapse.

Lullend Flame — Sometimes referred to as “The Flame,” Lullend Flame is a celebration that takes place every verse on Lullend, the sixth lapse of Burgeon. It's a celebration of romance and marriage. Often times it's used for nobles to introduce each others' single daughters and songs to one another.

Madanevé — The kingdom of the highest authority in all Twelve Kingdoms.

Milds, the  The milds are beings from the realm where Buan dwells. Said to have been made from Buan's Song and Light mixed together, the milds are capable of great wonders and power.

Minstrel — One gifted with the blessing of Song. Some sects of monks and their followers believe a minstrel's particular practice of Song to be unethical.

Monk — After the age of old kings, Monks sought to continue the ways of the ancient aldhelms, but debated on the interpretations of the Ancient Tales. Many differnet sects of monks formed over time and feuded with one another.

Moon's Peak  The middle of night.

New Verse — A holiday that takes place at the start of each verse. (See: verse)

Northeast Territories, the — An area of isolated villages and cities in the northeast part of Vranon that surround Glacier Gulf.

Partage — The share of any Scaeth crew. Each crew in the Scaeth must steal a minimum amount each lapse in order to keep their housing and food.

Power — One of the seven blessings of Vranon. Only the milds have the gift of Power, though the rare man has been able to use it temporarily in some circumstances. Like the royal sage. Milds gifted with Power can do incredible things. Some milds fight with no weapon, only their Power. Others with Power bless their weapons to make them stronger than they actually are, and occassionally bless the weapons of man.

Sage — Like aldhelms, sages are gifted with incredible wisdom. They are also the only ones alive who are able to interact with a Spirit of Buan face-to-face without dying. Only one sage is alive at a time, and they are assigned to the King of Madanevé, as his most trusted advisor and servant. When a sage dies, usually a Spirit will choose an exceptionally wise aldhelm to take his place.

Scakkle — A large land bird with big orange feathers, a blue beak, and fat legs. Its legs are popular food among nobility.

Scaeth — A scaeth is a small reptile, typically no bigger than the palm of an average person's hand. They have thick snouts, and horns sticking out of their spines all the way to their tales. Their scales have varying colors, but most are either white, black, green, or red. There are rumors of rarer-colored scaeths, but most believe those are just myths. They have distinct, thin wings that mostly hug their bodies. The wings are useless, as they can't fly, but are often flared as a warning sign of its coming attack. Aside from their looks, they're known for stealthily stealing other animals' food, and being surprsingly vicious killers when threatened. They've been known to kill creatures five times their size, and a team of them could kill a human.

Scaeth Guild, the — Named after the lizard, the Scaeth Guild are a group of thieves who seek to uproot traditional society. They live and meet in hidden, underground places throughout the many kingdoms of Cae D'as, where they plot to steal from society until the nobles fall, and the scaeths take over.

Season — A period of twelve lapses. There are four seasons in every verse.

Seven Blessings, the  Each of the Seven Spirits of Buan (see: Seven Spirits, the) has a unique power that manifests itself in the world of Vranon. These powers are known as the Seven Blessings. Each Spirit may bless a given being with an extention of his power, for any given time.

Seven Spirits, the  Buan is one being who exists in seven spirits. Each Spirit has a specific power that manifests itself in the world of Vranon, and, like limbs on a body, all Seven Spirits together make up the powerful being that is Buan.

Snake — The act of wronging someone, especially in a backbiting or manipulating sort of way.

Song — Song is one of the seven blessings of Vranon. Those gifted with Song can sing to creation, eliciting a response.

Song, the  “The Song” referrs to the first song ever sung by Buan. In the Ancient Tales, it's said that the first man to ever wander the lands of Vranon heard “the Song,” and followed it, seeking whomever sang it. This pleased Buan, and ever since, Buan has loved and blessed all men who hear and follow his Song.

Sultry — The second season, and hottest time, of every verse.

Sun's Peak  The middle of day.

Twelve Kingdoms, the — At the beginning of mankind's true dwelling upon Vranon, all of them inhabited Twelve Kingdoms in the central east of Vranon. The Twelve Kingdoms refers to either literally all twelve kingdoms, or to mankind as a whole.

Verse — A period of four seasons, or forty-eight lapses, which repeats when completed.

Vranon — The entire known universe. In the land where humans dwell, Vranon consists of two large continents connected by a small land bridge in the northernmost part of the world. In various places throughout the land, there are rifts to other realms of Vranon, where strange creatures lurk, often seeking ways to enter man's domain and claim the land for themselves.

War of the Milds, the — An event spoken of in the Ancient Tales when Abaddon, one of the greatest milds, sought to overthrow Buan. He gathered an army of milds to start the attack, attempting to go through humans to get to Buan. It turned into a war that changed the landscape of Vranon and gave birth to the felled.
